
Gas prices in West Virginia have seen slight decreases over the past week, though they remain higher than they were a month ago.
According to the latest data from AAA, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.063, down from $3.111 a week ago.
Compared to a month ago, when prices averaged $2.854, regular gas is up about 21 cents.
However, prices are significantly lower than a year ago, when regular gas averaged $3.590 statewide.
For other fuel grades, the statewide averages currently sit at $3.494 for mid-grade, $3.945 for premium, and $3.516 for diesel.
All fuel types are down compared to this time last year, with diesel seeing one of the most noticeable drops—from $4.008 last year to $3.516 now.
Local trends reflect the statewide averages. In Beckley, regular gas is currently averaging $2.983, down slightly from $3.014 last week but also up from a month ago, when it sat at $3.006.
Diesel in Beckley is averaging $3.709, slightly lower than a week ago but still higher than the $3.747 seen a month ago.
Charleston is seeing similar pricing with regular fuel averaging $3.060, also down slightly from last week.
With the lowest gas prices, Greenbrier County seems to be leading the way in southern West Virginia with gas in Rainelle at $2.68 a gallon and $2.72 in Lewisburg.
Diesel in the capital city is currently at $3.384, which is up slightly from last month but well below the $3.952 recorded a year ago.
