GRUNDY, VA (SWVO) – Yes, a three-story Walmart exists, and it’s located in the middle of nowhere in Appalachia.
Before we dig in, we understand that Grundy is a bit out of our coverage area but it’s just so unique, we wanted to highlight this place.
The Grundy Walmart is built between a mountain and the Levisa Fork.
This may give reasoning on why this Walmart was constructed as three stories in this small Virginia town with 875 residents as of the 2020 U.S. Census.
The building is three stories, which features a two-level parking garage and the shopping center on the third floor.
With limited space for a flat parking lot, a parking garage is more logical in this situation.
It also features escalators, an elevator, and an escalator for shopping carts.
There’s also a pedestrian bridge stretching across the river into downtown Grundy, the county seat of Buchanan County.
The Grundy Walmart is located at 1179 Riverview Street, Grundy, VA 24614.
