FAYETTEVILLE, WV (SWVO) – The town of Fayetteville is gearing up for its annual Heritage Festival, a three-day celebration packed with activities, music, contests, and fireworks in honor of Independence Day.

The festivities begin Thursday, July 3, and continue through Saturday, July 5, with events taking place in downtown Fayetteville and at The Charlie McCoy Town Park.

Thursday, July 3: Downtown Fayetteville Events

Kicking off the celebration, vendors will be set up throughout downtown from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. At 5 p.m., residents and visitors can enjoy “The Best Small-Town 4th of July Parade” along Maple Avenue.

The evening continues with live music from Buddy Allen & Cheat River Band on the Court Street Stage from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. At 7:15 p.m., an Old Fashioned Cake Walk and Youth Cookie Walk will take place in front of the downtown stage.

Friday, July 4: Festivities at Charlie McCoy Town Park

Activities move to The Charlie McCoy Town Park on Friday, with vendors and inflatable amusements open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a $5 day pass.

A series of fun contests are scheduled throughout the afternoon:

  • 2:00 p.m. – Patriotic Pet Contest
  • 2:30 p.m. – Hula Hoop Contest
  • 3:00 p.m. – Hot Dog Eating Contest, sponsored by Tudor’s Biscuit World
  • 3:30 p.m. – Balloon Toss
  • 4:00 p.m. – Sack Race
  • 4:30 p.m. – Frog Jumping Contest

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fayetteville’s First Friday will be held on Court Street in front of the courthouse. The Exiles Band will perform on the Town Park Stage from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fireworks will follow at dusk.

Saturday, July 5: Closing Day Activities

The final day begins with the Fayette County Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Courthouse parking lot. The FHS Come Home Reunion will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a designated location.

That evening, Keller Williams and the Keels will perform two shows at the Outpost New River Gorge.

A free kids’ show will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by a ticketed main performance from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
