RAINELLE, WV (SWVO) – Hundreds of motorcyclists taking part in the 2025 Run for the Wall will ride through southern West Virginia on Thursday, May 22, as part of their cross-country journey to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The riders, participating in the event’s Central Route, will travel along U.S. Route 60, making a notable stop at Rainelle Elementary School.
The annual visit allows the veterans and supporters to meet with students and staff, a tradition that has become a cherished part of the community’s calendar.
Many students greet the riders with handmade signs, songs, and patriotic displays in a warm show of appreciation.
Following the visit to Rainelle, the riders will continue to Lewisburg, where they will stay overnight before continuing east toward Washington, D.C. on Friday.
The group is expected to arrive in the nation’s capital ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
Run for the Wall, now in its 36th year, was founded in 1989 to honor veterans, raise awareness for those missing in action or still unaccounted for, and promote healing among veterans and their families.
The Central Route is one of four coordinated rides across the country and typically includes stops in towns and cities where local communities offer food, fuel, and heartfelt welcomes.
Local residents are encouraged to safely line the route or join community events to show their support as the riders pass through.
