GILBERT, W.VA. (SWVO) – A rockslide closed State Route 80 in Mingo County near Gilbert on Friday.

The slide occurred at mile marker 5.17 and resulted in the closure of all lanes.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation says that traffic is being detoured from U.S. Route 52 to State Route 44.

Sources tell SWVO online that local coal miners then stepped in to help clean up the mess.

A Caterpillar loader made its way to the slide and moved multiple large rocks out of the roadway, thanks to local coal miners in the area.

The road still remains closed at this time.
